Proper installation of lighting fixtures is essential for both safety and optimal performance. Below are step-by-step guides for installing some of the most common types of lighting fixtures, including recessed lights, pendant lights, and outdoor fixtures.

How to Install Recessed Lights

Explore our selection of recessed lights.

  1. Turn Off Power:

    • Before starting, turn off the power at the circuit breaker to avoid any electrical hazards.
  2. Mark the Ceiling:

    • Use a template to mark where each recessed light will be installed. Ensure that there’s adequate space between each light and that it’s free from obstructions like ceiling joists.
  3. Cut the Hole:

    • Carefully cut out the marked area using a drywall saw.
  4. Run Wiring:

    • Run electrical wiring from the power source to each hole. Make sure to leave enough wire length for easy connection.
  5. Connect the Fixture:

    • Connect the wiring to the recessed light housing according to the manufacturer’s instructions.
  6. Secure the Housing:

    • Insert the housing into the ceiling and secure it using the provided clips.
  7. Install the Bulb and Trim:

    • Finally, install the appropriate bulb and trim to complete the installation.
  8. Turn On Power and Test:

    • Restore power and test the lights to ensure they’re working correctly.

    • Adjust the length of the pendant light cord to the desired height.
  4. Connect the Wiring:

    • Connect the fixture wires to the house wiring: typically black to black (hot), white to white (neutral), and green or bare to the ground wire.
  5. Mount the Fixture:

    • Attach the pendant light to the mounting bracket and secure it with screws.
  6. Install the Bulb:

    • Insert the appropriate light bulb into the socket.
